about

This website is both the collation of information and production of information intended to assist teachers incorporating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history and perspectives into Art teaching programs.

The website provides some basic information about:

Indigenous history, culture and politics.

Excursions and recources that teachers may use as starting points for their own research and lesson planning.

Indigenous artists and information about their artworks and artmaking practices.

Sample art activites which use indigenous perspectives of land, identity, politics, education and ritual.

It is hoped that the discussion and participation in these activities will contribute to the breakdown of intercultural barriers and discrimination felt by many indigenous people.

The website has been designed specifically as support material for Art subjects, but it can be used for other subjects and year levels.

"I quickly realised I had learned more about the original people of Australia in my small school in the Scottish Highlands than these Australians had been taught, or wanted to find out. They knew next to nothing. Amazing." —John Pilger, The Guardian.
